The worst emotion that a human being can ever feel is despair. Despair is the feeling of utter hopelessness, powerlessness, and helplessness. It’s the feeling of being completely overwhelmed by a difficult situation that one feels powerless to change or get out of. In despair one can feel like they have no options, no solutions, and no way out. This emotion is so powerful because it can cause a person to feel so trapped and isolated, like no one else can understand their circumstances or how they’re feeling. It can lead to a type of depression that can become very hard to escape from. Actions that would cause someone to feel despair can include: being fired from a job, dealing with a terminal illness, experiencing a natural disaster, dealing with a loved one’s death, being taken advantage of or exploited, and feeling unsupported or let down by someone important. There are several remedies and ways to prevent someone from feeling despair. These include: seeking out a supportive family member or friend, talking to a professional counselor or therapist, creating a plan and seeking out resources to get through a difficult situation, engaging in meaningful activities that bring joy or pleasure, practicing mindfulness and calming self-talk, taking time to rest and relax, and developing resilience and grit.
