I have personally witnessed the ethical concepts of respect for persons, beneficence, and justice in my own life and in the world around me. Respect for persons is something we all need in order to function in society. In my daily interactions with others, I always try to show respect for their individual autonomy by listening to their opinions and treating them with the same respect that I would expect in return. Beneficence is the principle of taking action to help others and can be seen in volunteerism, philanthropy, and simply everyday acts of kindness. In my life, I strive to perform acts of beneficence by listening to other people’s needs and trying to help in whatever ways I can. Lastly, I believe that justice is a cornerstone of a functioning and fair society and I strive to be a just person in all of my interactions. I have seen the concept of justice play out in my daily life when people are treated fairly in a court of law and the community rallies around a cause to ensure that everyone gets the same rights and privileges.
