1. Gas transportation and storage infrastructure: The government of India has developed a comprehensive framework for the development of gas transportation and storage infrastructure in the country. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has developed a “National Gas Grid” that is aimed at connecting the gas-producing, gas consuming and gas-distributing regions of India. The major components of the Grid are: i. City Gas Distribution Networks: The city gas distribution networks are responsible for the procurement, distribution and sale of natural gas to the consumers. These networks are currently present in 25 cities across India, providing gas to over 1.7 crore domestic, commercial and industrial consumers. ii. Long Distance Gas Pipelines: The long distance gas pipelines are designed to connect the producing, consuming and distributing areas of India. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has identified 4,000 kilometres of new pipelines to supplement the existing network of 24,000 kilometres of pipelines. These pipelines are expected to increase the supply of natural gas by approximately 36 million standard cubic meters of gas per day. iii. Underground Storage Facilities: Underground storage facilities are being developed by the government to ensure a regular and uninterrupted supply of natural gas in the event of any disruption in supply. Currently, India has two underground gas storage facilities; one in Tripura and one in Gujarat. These facilities have a capacity of 6.5 billion cubic metres of gas. 2. Telecommunication Infrastructure: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is responsible for the development and regulation of the telecommunication and broadband infrastructure in India. The DoT has implemented several initiatives such as BharatNet and Bharat Broadband Network (BBNL) to increase the availability of broadband services across the country. The government is also actively encouraging the development of 5G networks in India. To further promote the development of telecom infrastructure, the government has launched several public-private partnership projects to ensure a better quality of service. Additionally, the government is working on the development of fibre optics networks to increase the availability of high-speed internet services across the country.
