Descriptive Essay: A descriptive essay is a literary form that demands the writer to describe something—object, person, place, experience, emotion, situation, etc.—in such a way that he/she paints a clear and vivid picture of it for the reader. For example, a descriptive essay about summer vacation might be a creative student assignment that describes a particular experience or set of experiences during a summer trip or adventure. Process Writing Approach: The implementation of the process writing approach in teaching this form is centered around viewing writing as a procedural activity that evolves. Initially, a brainstorming session can be held where students recall their own experiences and note key moments, objects, or emotions they'd like to detail. Then, an initial draft can be written. Students would then participate in peer-review sessions to assess each other’s work. Revisions would follow this step, including the addition of metaphoric language, sensory details, and a clear organization pattern. At last, the final draft can be produced where students edit for grammar and spelling errors. Friendly Letter: A friendly letter is a type of letter that is written in an informal or conversational style. It is typically exchanged between friends, family members, or close acquaintances. An example might be a letter to a pen pal in another country, describing one's hometown and daily life. Process Writing Approach: The process writing approach would begin with brainstorming. Students can make a list of the ideas, experiences, or feelings they wish to express in their letter. The next step would be organizing these ideas in a logical and engaging manner and drafting the letter, making sure to include all necessary parts (date, greeting, body, closing, and signature). Peers could then give feedback on the draft, focusing on content and the natural flow of language, rather than on grammar or syntax. Once revisions have been made based on the feedback received, an editing phase for grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation can follow, leading to the final draft of the friendly letter. This approach emphasizes the iterative nature of writing and teaches students that effective writing often requires multiple drafts and revisions.
