OpenAI is planning to develop a massive 5-gigawatt data center in Abu Dhabi, which is expected to be one of the largest AI infrastructure projects in the world. This data center, bigger than Monaco, is part of OpenAI's ambitious Stargate project in partnership with G42, an Abu Dhabi-based tech conglomerate, SoftBank, and Oracle. They aim to build huge data centers globally with powerful computer chips to back AI development. The Abu Dhabi data center will have a capacity over four times that of its U.S. counterpart in Abilene, Texas. However, the project has raised some concerns due to G42's links with blacklisted entities and individuals tied to China's intelligence efforts. These concerns led to G42 changing its strategy and divesting its China investments. Microsoft has also invested $1.5 billion in G42, with its president, Brad Smith, joining G42's board of directors.
