How to Earn Free Cryptocurrency

My experiences, tips, and cautionary notes

By now, I'm sure you've heard of cryptocurrency. From Bitcoin to Ethereum and beyond, there are a lot of different cryptocurrencies out there, along with unique ways to earn them.

Since back in 2014, I've been finding ways to get to free bitcoin. Before, you'd have to use TOR to access the dark web and click on free bitcoin faucets. Since then, the web3 ecosystem has grown significantly and gained some reputability.

There are more ways now to earn free cryptocurrency than ever before. Below is a rundown of my favorites, how much I’ve earned (roughly), and things to watch out for. I’ll update this article periodically as I discover new methods!

Coinbase Rewards

What it is: Short video tutorials + quizzes on new tokens.

My take: Since they've started tracking completed rewards, I've made about $12.25 in rewards across 4 different cryptocurrencies. Each module takes 3–5 minutes and they're a good way of staying up to date on various cryptos.

⚙️ How to start:
Sign up via my link and earn $30 for free after your first trade of $20 or more (and I'll get $30, too).

Watch out: You must pass KYC (can take 24 – 48 hours), and not all quizzes are available in every region.

Puzzle Wallet

What it is: Solve on-chain puzzles to earn PART rewards which you can spend in the Store.

My take: They only have 3 "games" and the Store is mostly Sold Out.

⚙️ How to start:
Visit PuzzleWallet and connect your wallet. If you sign up with my referral code, Btv9lGCECY2h, and something might happen (their app doesn't provide any info on their referral program).

Watch out: Gas fees apply when claiming; batch your claims to save on network costs.

Sweatcoin

What it is: Earn $SWEAT by walking every day

? My take: I just downloaded this app today (5/17/2025), along with Sweat Wallet, so I'll check back in with how many rewards I have

⚙️ How to start:
Sign up for an account and I'll get 20 $SWEAT

World App & WorldCoin

What it is: Get verified as a human being via an Orb taking a retina scan

My take:It was cofounded by OpenAI's Sam Altman and I've already given up my retina scan to go through airports fasters, so it seemed like a good deal. Claimed 150 WLD (now over $150) by downloading World App and completing iris scan + learning Pioneer basics.

⚙️ How to start:
Download World App and follow on-screen verification. If you're in the U.S. and follow through with the verification, you'll get $50 in WLD (and I'll get $50, too).

Watch out: Privacy concerns around biometric data—read their Privacy Policy first.

Other Platforms Worth Trying

Note that an AI generated these recommendations and may have hallucinated them.

  • Brave Browser: Earn ~5 BAT/month just by browsing with ads enabled.

  • Fold App: Get up to 1–3% BTC cashback at retailers like Starbucks and DoorDash.

  • Presearch: Earn 0.2 PRE per search (max ~8 USD/day) with decentralized search.

  • CoinMarketCap Earn: Airdrops + quizzes for tokens like APE, DOT, and more.

  • Crypto.com: $25 in CRO after depositing $400 and using card once.

Safety & Best Practices

  • Always verify URLs and beware phishing sites.

  • Don’t chase tiny token airdrops if gas fees will eat your reward.

  • Use a hardware wallet or a reputable software wallet (e.g. MetaMask) to store assets you accumulate.

  • Read each platform’s terms and privacy policy—especially for biometric or KYC-based airdrops.
