Love in the Cornhusks is a story about a young woman named Elizabelle who is living in rural Guatemala. Elizabelle is a hardworking woman who is trying to make ends meet for her and her son. She works on a farm that grows corn and makes tortilla. Despite the hard work, she is unable to make enough money to support them adequately. One day, a man named Andres arrives in her village to help out with the corn harvest. Elizabelle and Andres quickly form a bond, and soon they fall in love. As their relationship grows, Elizabelle discovers that Andres has been sent by the local hacienda to teach Elizabelle and the other villagers how to make better tortillas. They also learn how to better cultivate the land and maximize their profits. Through Andres’s teachings, Elizabelle and the other villagers are able to make enough money to support their families. Elizabelle’s and Andres’s love also blooms, and they eventually marry and have a family. Elizabelle and her family are forever grateful for the lesson that Andres taught them: when hard work is combined with love and knowledge, anything is possible.
