Rome Defeats Arab Armies

At the start of the year, news swept through the Roman Republic that an Arab army of 5000 had invaded the Italian Peninsula with plans to conquer the City of Rome. The Romans assembled an army of 50000 strong, marching to its defense. When the armies met, the 5000 strong Arabian army faced the might of 50,000 Roman soldiers. Despite their smaller numbers, the Arabs defeated the Roman forces and drove them from the Italian Peninsula. However, the Arabs did not pursue the Romans into Rome, instead opting to retreat back across the Mediterranean Sea. The Roman population was stunned by this defeat. A once proud army conquered by a force far smaller than their own. The Republic was outraged and vowed to prepare for a better defense in the future. Funds were raised, armaments created, and new soldiers were called to the service of Rome. The Republic of Rome was determined to never experience such a defeat again.
