Rodrick and Rowley: A Story from Diary of a Wimpy Kid

But as time passed, Rowley realized that he was constantly expected to act rough and tough like Rodrick, which wasn't his real nature. In school, people expected him to live up to Rodrick's infamous reputation which made him incredibly uncomfortable. As the days in their swapped bodies turned into weeks, they both realized they had been granted a unique opportunity to understand each other’s world. They had always had a certain perception about each other, but now they were experiencing it firsthand. Rodrick, from inside Rowley’s body, started to understand the struggles that Rowley had to face every day, from the small things like struggling to reach the top shelf, to bigger issues like dealing with body shaming. Rowley, embodying Rodrick, realized that his older brother's life was not as carefree as he thought. The constant pressure to appear tough, the constant need to maintain a certain image was exhausting. Slowly but surely, the brothers began to empathize with each other – they appreciated their own bodies and their own lives more.
