Dear Journal, Today has been a difficult day. I can't help but feel frustrated and hurt by my mother's constant favoritism towards my older brother, Mondrell. It's like no matter what I do, I'll never measure up to his achievements in her eyes. Even when I told her about my early college classes in psychology and English, she didn't seem all that interested. But when Mondrell talks about his job and his accomplishments, she listens with rapt attention. To make matters worse, I have a four-page essay due in my English class, and it's been taking me days to complete it. My English teacher has high expectations and I want to impress her, but it's hard to find the motivation to work when it feels like no one cares about my efforts. It's like my accomplishments are insignificant compared to my brother's. Despite all this, I know I can't give up. I am determined to succeed and prove to myself that I am capable of great things, regardless of what my family thinks. Maybe with time and persistence, my mother will start to see me in a new light.
